What is the reason why the surface plates are made in cast iron and the strong points of cast iron?

The reason is as following:

1. Complex construction easy to shape
The surface plates which are made in cast iron are easier to shape, especially for complex construction workpieces; on other aspect, casting on time can be low down the cost.

2. A good vibration absorption performance
Cast iron has good performance in vibration absorption. Cast iron surface plates can be used in lab for experiment; they can be low down the noise caused by machine shaking in order to reduce the damage to the workers’ eardrum.

3. Good lubrication
Cast iron is similar to carbon steel; they are containing carbon which is lubricating. It is easy when workpieces move on Cast iron surface plates.

4. Good wear resistance
Cast iron surface plate can reduce the damage and scratch caused by friction between workpieces and itself, for its hard texture.
